Luna was always destined for great things, but even her closest friends could scarecely believe it when she reached the prestigious heights of official Railway Sleeper inspector at the age of TWO! It was an arduous studying process moving from stick control, bone examination, snowball exploration, and finally graduating in the scrutiny and assessment of heavy duty railway sleepers in May 2022. Days after the end of the Winter Olympics we came across this amazing historical photo of one million railway sleepers, that had been cut over the winter of 1928 in British Columbia by a Swedish crew. An astonishing achievement worth of any gold medal!

Emergency teams have expressed their frustration after a "silly prank" left them with an unnecessary call out, costing them time and resources. A toilet attendant alerted police to a locked cubical in the West Bay Car Park, just south of Bridport. Worried that someone may have been taken ill, he called the police who then called the fire and ambulance teams. Once the fire teams arrived they removed the toilet door to find that part of an old railway sleeper was lying and blocking the other side. Posting on their Facebook page, Bridport Police wrote: "A silly prank has led to the unnecessary call out of the emergency services today to the 24 Hour toilet in the West Bay Car Park......

I love the idea of a virtually unbreakable mallet. It sounds like something that a superhero would use in a Marvel comic. Thor and his everlasting hammer! It certainly reflects the nature of Azobe timber, (also known as Ekki, Ironwood & Bongossi) that is said to be the hardest industrially used wood in the world. Railway sleepers used from this tropical hardwood tend to last for decades without any treatment, and even when they have outlasted their railway life, they have wonderful other usages, ranging from landscaping to furniture, and magical bullet proof mallets!
