JUST WAITING TO BE PLANTED! EXPECTANT RAISED BEDS WITH RAILWAY SLEEPERS
Set in the North York Moors National Park, this historic walled garden has vibrant borders, glasshouses and apple orchards. Built in 1759, the garden sits beneath the imposing ruins of Helmsley Castle and has been welcoming visitors to North Yorkshire for over 30 years. Derelict for decades until 1994 when Alison Ticehurst, a local practice nurse saw its potential. She wanted it to be a beautiful garden to visit but also somewhere where people could benefit from therapeutic horticulture.
At Helmsley Walled Garden we want everyone to feel the therapeutic benefit not only of gardening, but also of the beautiful environment created by our volunteers. Our garden is entirely maintained by a team of volunteers who are guided by trained horticulturalists. Each volunteer’s contribution, regardless of their background or abilities, plays a vital role in enhancing the garden’s beauty, and allows them to work towards a collective achievement.
